We joined Kirsty and Sophia, our fantastic Mutual Managers, to discuss their experiences of working in business.
Sitting round the boardroom table on a beautiful Spring morning, Sophia and Kirsty noted the significant changes that had occurred in the workplace in the last ten years, triggered, they felt, by an increase in a general demand for greater flexibility. When they first entered the job market, requesting flexible working hours, working from home, or leaving early to pick up the children would have been frowned upon, but both agreed that companies that do not offer these benefits are now seen as rather archaic and lagging behind the competition.
Christine joined the precursor of Unimutual in July 2003 after gaining 12 years experience working in the Risk Management Office at the University of Sydney in the positions of Insurance Claims Officer and then subsequently as Insurance Manager a position which she held for 11 years. Prior to the positions held at the University of Sydney, Christine also held positions within the insurance industry with various insurers and a broker. Christine is currently a Fellow of the Australian and New Zealand Institute of Insurance and Finance, and a Member of the Risk Management Institute of Australasia.

In 2015 Regis was awarded the contract to manage the Fire and Rescue Authorities Indemnity Mutual. The Mutual was established by 9 fire authorities, the aim was to improve their overall risk management and the way they dealt with the cost of incidents to vehicles and people.
The last decade saw a buoyant, soft insurance market with low premiums and accessible solutions; however, it is clear that the 20s will be a contrasting decade with a harder insurance market as the macro environment becomes increasing turbulent and the effects of past underwriting decisions becomes apparent.
Managing the Activities Industry Mutual requires passion and commitment to deliver a Mutual that truly supports its Members. We interviewed Sophia to find out more about her plans for 2020.

Kirsty joined Regis in June 2015 as an Assistant Mutual Manager. In 2019 Kirsty was appointed as Mutual Manager of The Retail Mutual with the task to deliver its ambitious growth plans and maintaining its vision to provide a one stop shop for independent retails.
